Thanks for
visiting our webpage. The Kates family would like to wish our family
and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We’ve had another
busy year, full of fun and laughter. Justin is a junior at University
of Delaware. He is anxiously waiting graduation so he can begin a
career in Homeland Security and Politics. I’m proud to say that Justin
started volunteering at an early age. Now that he’s in college, he’s
continued his community service as a volunteer fireman. He joined our
local fire department in Lewes during the summer and then joined Christiana
when he moved back to UD in the fall. Most of his weekends have been
full of training exercises. He enjoys the excitement and the new
friendships with the fellow fire fighters.
Summer is a
sophomore at Sussex Tech. She is enrolled in the Health Professions
curriculum. It’s the beginning of a long journey into the field of
medicine. She loves her teacher and her classes. Summer was
inducted in the National Honor Society and successfully auditioned for
All-State Choir again this year. She had a wonderful experience last
year at All-State. She got to sing under the leadership of UD’s choir
conductor, Dr. Head. Summer also participated in marching band this year.
I think this was the rainiest football season ever. I can’t remember a
half time show that I didn’t need an umbrella. Along with singing in
the regular school choir, Summer is also a member of the select choir, Bella
Voce (Italian for beautiful voice). We’re looking forward to their
first concert next week. Summer spends some of her free time
volunteering also. At the Tunnell Cancer Center, she assists patients
and does clerical work. Some days, Summer even has the opportunity to
shadow the nurses and physicians. She really likes that.
Butch will be
spending the holidays at home this year. He just started his vacation
a couple of weeks ago. He’s already started some home improvement
projects that should keep him busy through January. I’ve been keeping
busy also. I spend a lot of time volunteering at Summer’s school.
It’s fun getting to meet Summer’s friends and getting to know her teachers.
Summer and I have also continued ballroom dancing. We brush up on our
skills while helping new students. But the thing that keeps me the
busiest, is doing all of Justin’s laundry when he comes home to visit.
I guess it’s Justin’s way of reminding me that he’s still part of the
family.
Butch has added a
slide show of some recent photographs of the family. Enjoy! Send us an
email and let us know how you’re doing.
